Description

Overview

The SuperSprings SSA16, part number SSA16, is a specialist helper spring that adds from 800 lbs. to 6000 lbs. of capacity. It fits 1988–2000 and 2011–2018 Chevrolet and GMC 2500 and 3500 pickups, 1989–1991 Chevrolet V3500, 1988–1991 GMC V3500, and Ford F-250 and F-350 models.

The SSA16 is installed directly above the rear leaf springs and works in parallel with the existing suspension. It reduces rear-end sag, supports towing capability and limits body roll during cornering and cross winds.

Key features

  • Adds from 800 lbs. to 6000 lbs. of capacity
  • Works in parallel with the rear leaf springs and kicks in on demand
  • Anti-sway design reduces body roll
  • Adjustable

Specialist helpers and towing

Helper springs for heavy trucks add support above the rear leaf springs, so the rear end can carry more weight without sagging. Because the unit works in parallel with the factory suspension, it engages as load increases. Its effect is most noticeable when towing or hauling, and it contributes less when the truck is unloaded.

Before choosing a helper, check the truck’s current rear springs, shocks and bushings. Worn parts can make a helper feel uneven, so replacing them first is often sensible. Look at tire load ratings and the trailer hitch as well. After installation, recheck the mounting hardware after the first few loaded trips and inspect for fatigue cracks.

  • Inspect rear shocks and bushings
  • Check tire load ratings
  • Recheck hardware after loaded trips

Questions & Answers

Will the SSA16 fit a 2011 GMC Sierra 3500 HD?

Yes. It fits the 2011–2017 GMC Sierra 3500 HD in Base, Denali, SLE, SLT and WT trims. Confirm your vehicle's year, model and trim before ordering, since other years are not covered.

What does Specialist mean in the SSA16 name?

Specialist is the product line name for the SSA16. Compare its specifications with other SuperSprings models before choosing one for your towing needs.

How much capacity does the SSA16 add?

It adds from 800 lbs. to 6000 lbs. of capacity and is adjustable. Never exceed the truck's gross vehicle weight rating, and check your load before each trip.

How can I tell if a helper spring is needed?

A helper is worth considering if the rear sags under normal loads or the truck sits low when hauling. Measure rear height unloaded and loaded to see how much it changes. Confirm fit for your vehicle's year, model and trim before ordering the SSA16.

Should worn leaf springs be replaced before adding a helper?

Often yes. Worn or sagging leaf springs can make a helper feel uneven and wear faster. Inspect the leaves for cracks and set, then decide whether to replace them. A helper works best when the factory springs are in sound condition.
