Overview
The Smittybilt XRC Swingaway rear bumper (part number S/B76851-01) is a rear bumper only, with a Class III tow hitch and solid D-ring mounts. The XRC line was engineered for the 1984–2001 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) to provide maximum ground clearance.
The bumper is made from 3/16 inch cold rolled steel that is robotically welded to exact specifications. The D-rings are welded on the inside and outside, and the one-piece design has a two stage textured matte black powder coat.

Choosing a recovery setup
A rear bumper with solid D-ring mounts gives a fixed point for recovery straps, shackles and winch lines, but the rating of each recovery point depends on the strap, the shackle and the vehicle the bumper is bolted to. Match recovery gear to the load you expect and avoid pulling at an angle that stresses the mounts. Class III hitches are used for trailers and carriers, so check the hitch rating against the weight it will carry.
Welded bumpers can crack at the welds after heavy impacts, so look over the welds, the D-ring mounts and the hitch tube after rough use. Touch up powder coat chips to limit rust on the steel. Keep the mounting bolts tight, and check the bumper alignment with the body after each trip, since a shift can change how the bumper sits on the rear.
