Description

Overview

The Power Stop Z36-966 front brake pads are Z36 Truck and Tow disc brake pads for 2000–2005 Dodge Ram 1500 and 2003 Dodge Durango.

Heavier loads and repeated braking are where the Z36 compound is intended to perform. Its friction is 17 percent higher than OE pads, which helps reduce the risk of high temperature brake fade.

Key features

  • Carbon and ceramic friction formula
  • Thermal scorched finish
  • Chamfered and slotted like the OE pads
  • Powdercoated backing plate
  • Noise insulating shims
  • Hi-temp lubricant included
  • Direct fit with the stock caliper, front position

Front pad care after install

Front pads on a Ram or Durango do the bulk of the braking, so their condition shows up quickly in the pedal and the steering wheel. A pad that is seated evenly against the rotor gives a steady stop, while uneven contact produces pulsation. Keep the pad faces clean of oil and grease, which can cause squeal and reduce friction.

After installation, drive gently for the first stretch so the friction material transfers evenly to the rotor. Avoid holding the brake at a stop for long periods during the break-in. Inspect the front rotors and caliper slides at the next service, and replace worn hardware as needed, since the pad cannot correct a binding caliper.

  • Keep grease off the pad faces
  • Avoid long holds at stops during break-in
  • Check slide pins at the next service

Questions & Answers

Which vehicles does the Power Stop Z36-966 fit?

The Z36-966 front pads fit 2000–2005 Dodge Ram 1500 and 2003 Dodge Durango. Confirm fit for your vehicle's year, model and trim before ordering.

Is the Z36-966 a front or rear brake pad?

Front. The Z36-966 is a front-position pad made to work with the stock caliper. It is a direct-fit upgrade, so the caliper and mounting bracket stay in place during the swap.

Is the Z36-966 designed for towing?

Yes, Power Stop designed the Z36 line, including the Z36-966, for drivers who haul loads, tow trailers or drive in the hills. The Z36-966 pads use a carbon and ceramic formula that Power Stop aims at high temperature brake fade.

What causes squealing from new front pads?

Squeal often comes from the shims or wear indicator, a glazed rotor, or contamination on the friction face. Brief light stops usually settle it. If the noise continues after break-in, inspect the shims, the rotor surface and the caliper slides for wear.
