Hood insulation and clip care
Hood insulation is held by push pins that press into holes in the sheet metal and grip the pad. Over time the plastic pin can become brittle, and the pad can sag or pull away from the hood in spots. Check the pins when the hood is open and look for pads that hang low or rattle at speed. Pins that break during removal are common, so keep spares on hand.
Heat and sun can make older insulation pads brittle, so handle the pads gently when removing them. Clean any dirt from the holes before pressing in a new pin so it seats fully. A pin that is not fully seated can let the pad rattle or lift. Replace any pad that is torn or crumbling, since loose pieces can fall into the engine bay.
