Overview
The Omix-ADA Fuel Tank Sending Unit Kit, part 17724.09, is a direct OE replacement fuel tank sending unit for 15 gallon tanks on 1970 to 1986 Jeep CJ models. It is built to original specifications and carries a limited five year warranty.
The sending unit sits inside the fuel tank and reports fuel level to the gauge. It is intended for owners replacing the original unit on a 1970 to 1986 CJ.
Key features
- Direct OE replacement built to original specifications by Omix-ADA
- Designed for 15 gallon fuel tanks
- Includes sending unit, filter, o-ring and lock ring
- Limited five year warranty
Checking the sending unit
The sending unit reads the float position and sends a signal to the gauge, so a failing sender can give false readings even when the tank is full. Symptoms usually include a gauge that sticks, drops suddenly or stays on empty. Check the gauge and wiring first, since a bad connection can look like a bad sender.
When replacing the unit, keep the tank surface clean and check the float arm for bends before installing. Replace the lock ring and o-ring as a set, and confirm the float moves freely through its full range. Fuel should not be left in the tank while the unit is out.
- Inspect the float arm for bends
- Replace the o-ring when the unit comes out
- Check the gauge and wiring before blaming the sender
