Overview
The Crown Automotive wheel bearing cup J0052943 is a bearing race for the Dana 25 front axle, sold for the inner or outer position. The bearing cup seats the wheel bearing in the hub, so matching the position matters when you replace it. It fits Willys MB, CJ-2, CJ-3, CJ-5 and CJ-6 models from 1941 to 1958, plus Jeep CJ3, CJ5 and CJ6 models from 1959 to 1965.
Key features
- Made for the Dana 25 front axle
- Covers the inner or outer position
- Replacement part from Crown Automotive, a maker of Jeep replacement parts
- It is a direct-fit replacement.
Before you install a bearing cup
A bearing cup is the outer race that the wheel bearing rolls against inside the hub. If the cup is loose, cracked or scored, the bearing can shift and the wheel may wobble or run warm, so the old cup should be inspected whenever the hub is open.
Driving with a damaged cup can also harm the bearing and the hub bore, so fixing it early saves the cost of a second repair. Clean the hub bore thoroughly, make sure the cup sits square and fully seated, and repack the bearings as your service procedure calls for. Keep inner and outer positions straight during the rebuild so each bearing returns where it came from.
- Look for scoring or pitting on the race
- Check that the cup seats fully in the hub
- Repack the bearings with fresh grease
- Match inner and outer positions on reassembly
