Choosing and checking the cylinder
The master cylinder is the pressure source for the whole hydraulic clutch, so its seals and bore determine how smoothly the pedal feels. Wear often shows as a soft pedal, a pedal that sinks slowly under steady pressure, or fluid collecting around the body or pushrod boot. A replacement cylinder should be compared with the old one for port location and pushrod length before the old unit is removed.
