Pressure plate wear signs
A pressure plate uses a diaphragm or spring pack to clamp the disc against the flywheel. Over time the clamping force fades from heat cycles, and the friction surface and springs lose their tension. A worn plate can slip under load, chatter during takeoff, or leave the pedal feeling light, especially when towing.
Before reinstalling, check the flywheel face for heat marks, scoring, and cracks, and confirm it is flat. Replace the clutch disc, release bearing, and pilot bearing at the same time, since they wear together and are easier to address during one teardown. Make sure the friction surface on the new disc matches the intended use, whether street, strip, or towing.
