Working with rear leaf springs
Leaf springs locate the axle and carry the vehicle load through their eye bolts and shackles. A rear lift block moves the axle up in relation to those springs, so the shackles hang at a new angle and the bushings take on different loads. Looking over the shackle pivots, eye bolts and bushings during installation helps catch wear that would otherwise be hidden under a raised axle.
Lift blocks also change how the rear suspension compresses, so the bump stops and shock absorbers see more travel. Planning for these parts to be inspected at the same time keeps the rear end working as a single system.
