Rear seal wear signs
The rear output yoke seal keeps lubricant inside the transfer case where the rear driveshaft yoke turns. As it ages, the lip can harden or wear, and fluid starts to weep around the yoke. Because the yoke spins at driveshaft speed, a leak often gets worse under heavy use or after water and mud exposure.
Before replacing the seal, check the yoke for grooves or pitting, since a damaged surface can cut a new seal quickly. Replace the seal with the driveshaft removed, and use a proper installation tool so the lip is not damaged. Inspect nearby seals in the same session if the area is already apart.
After installation, check the fluid level and watch for seepage over the next several drives.
