Keeping the cable system healthy
The cable carries the gear’s rotation to the gauge, so its condition affects the speedometer as much as the gear does. Inside the housing, a stretched or kinked inner cable will reduce rotation and cause hesitation, even when the new gear is seated correctly. Route the cable with gentle bends and keep it away from exhaust heat and sharp edges.
When fitting a long shaft gear, check the cable end for wear and confirm it engages the gear fully before tightening anything. A light coat of grease on the drive end helps reduce noise and binding.
