Description

Overview

The Power Stop Z36-477 front brake pads are Z36 Truck and Tow disc brake pads for 1990–2006 Jeep Cherokee (XJ), Grand Cherokee (ZJ), Wrangler (YJ, TJ and LJ), Comanche, Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer.

Z36 pads suit vehicles working at higher gross vehicle weights, and the strong pad bite helps avoid high temperature brake fade. The Z36 compound has 17 percent more friction than OE pads.

Key features

  • Carbon and ceramic friction formula
  • Thermal scorched finish
  • Chamfered and slotted like the OE pads
  • Direct fit with the stock caliper, front position

Off-road and trail use

Trail driving puts heavy load on the front brakes during long descents, when the pads run hot for minutes at a time. Friction that holds up under heat helps the brakes respond the same way on the last descent as on the first. The Jeep’s front axle carries most of the stopping load, so front pad condition has a large effect on overall braking.

Older Jeep frames and suspension parts often show more wear than the brakes do, so inspect the steering, the tie rod ends and the wheel bearings while the front wheels are off. Keep the caliper bracket clean and free of rust, because a sticking slide pin can drag one pad and heat the rotor unevenly. Replace rotors that are worn past their minimum thickness so the new pads seat properly. A pad change every time is a good habit for a vehicle that sees rough trail use.

Questions & Answers

Which vehicles does the Power Stop Z36-477 fit?

The Z36-477 front pads fit 1990–2006 Jeep Cherokee (XJ), Grand Cherokee (ZJ), Wrangler (YJ, TJ and LJ), Comanche, Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. Check that your year, model and trim appear in this list before ordering.

Is the Z36-477 a front or rear brake pad?

Front. The Z36-477 is a front-position pad that fits the stock caliper, and it works as a direct-fit upgrade for the front axle of the vehicles it covers.

Is the Z36-477 meant for heavy trucks and SUVs?

Yes. Power Stop made the Z36 range for vehicles with higher gross vehicle weights, and the Z36-477 belongs to that range. The Z36-477 suits hill driving and loaded or towing use.

Should the pads be inspected after rough trail use?

Yes. Mud, grit and rock debris can work into the caliper and the pad surface, so inspect the pads and rotors after rough outings. Look for chunks missing from the friction material and uneven wear across the pad face.
