Replacing a worn tailgate seal
A tailgate seal keeps water, dust and exhaust out of the rear cargo area. Over time the rubber can harden, flatten or split, and a worn seal lets moisture reach the floor and the tailgate edge. Replacing it is a straightforward job that helps keep the back of the vehicle drier on wet trails and in rain.
Before fitting, clean the channel along the tailgate edge and remove old adhesive or debris. A clean surface helps the new seal sit flat. Press the seal in evenly from one end to the other so there are no gaps at the corners, where leaks often start.
Check the seal again after a few drives. If it lifts at any point, press it back down and confirm the channel is free of grit. Keep the old seal until the new one is confirmed to fit.
