Loading the slat platform
A slat platform spreads a load across several rails, which keeps long items from resting on a single point. Place heavier gear toward the center of the platform and keep the load low so it stays balanced on turns and over rough ground.
Bungee nets and straps work well with the loop attachments on the composite supports, but tie-downs need checking after the first stretch of driving. Loads settle and shift, and a loose strap can rub the finish or let items slide off at speed.
Sport carriers mounted directly to the slats suit bikes and recovery gear, but the slats should be secured to the main rail before any load goes on.
