Cleaning and lens care
A plastic cover protects the lens of a 6 inch light from road debris, but it also collects dust, mud and salt spray over time. Rinse the surface first to lift grit before wiping, since dragging a dry cloth across grit can leave fine scratches. Clean the snap edges too, because trapped debris can make a cover harder to remove for service.
Check the cover periodically for cracks, clouding or a loose fit. Polycarbonate handles impact well, but it can still crack if it is pried off repeatedly or hit hard. If the cover no longer seats firmly, replace it so it keeps the light protected and the mounting stable. Store spare covers flat and out of direct sun.
