Passenger side fitting tips
A rear emergency brake cable carries the pull from the equalizer to the brake drum, where it operates the shoe mechanism. On the passenger side it runs through guides and brackets that keep it aligned, so a bent bracket or a dry guide can make the cable bind even when the cable itself is sound.
When replacing the cable, check the drum, shoes and adjuster at the same time. Old shoes that are worn unevenly can hold the cable under strain, and a seized adjuster may need to be freed or replaced. Clean the guides and apply a light coat of grease where the cable passes through them.
