Description

Overview

The Warrior HL93112 is a three-piece hood lift and tailgate prop kit from Warrior Products, built around gas strut shocks for AEV hoods and for the tailgate of a Jeep.

Once installed, the gas strut shocks raise the hood to its full upright position after you lift it a couple of inches by hand, and the hood closes with only slight downward pressure. On the tailgate, a gas shock swings the door open on its own and holds it open while you load, so it will not swing back unexpectedly. Closing takes slight inward pressure with no release to push.

Key features

  • Gas strut shocks take the hood to its full upright position after an initial lift of a couple of inches.
  • The hood closes with only slight downward pressure.
  • The tailgate gas shock swings the tailgate open and holds it open during loading.
  • The tailgate closes with slight inward pressure and no release to push.
  • Designed for use with AEV hoods.

Hood and tailgate gas struts

Gas struts hold pressure in a sealed cylinder and push against the load, which is why the hood and tailgate rise and hold with little effort. Their force is steady, so the hood stays up without a prop rod and the tailgate stays open while you load. Over time the internal seals can wear, so a strut that no longer holds may need replacement rather than adjustment.

Mounting points carry the most stress. Check the ball joints and bracket bolts for wear before and after installation, and recheck fasteners after the first few trips. If a hood closes unevenly or the tailgate drifts down, check the strut ends and mounting before assuming the strut has failed.

Keep the pivot points clean and free of grit, since debris can wear the ball sockets faster. Avoid pushing the hood closed against a strut, and let the strut control the motion.

  • Check ball joints for play
  • Recheck bracket bolts after first trips
  • Keep pivot points clean
  • Replace struts that no longer hold position

Questions & Answers

Does the Warrior HL93112 fit my Jeep?

It is designed for use with AEV hoods. Match your hood type and vehicle year, model and trim before installing.

What does the HL93112 kit include?

The kit comes as three pieces and includes instructions. Check the contents against the instructions when the kit arrives so each gas strut shock and fitting is accounted for before you start the installation.

What is the Warrior HL93112?

It is a Warrior Products hood lift and tailgate prop kit, part number HL93112, UPC 634146931128. Its gas strut shocks lift the hood after a couple of inches of hand lift and hold the tailgate open while loading.

Does the tailgate prop stay open?

Yes. The gas shock holds the tailgate open while you load your Jeep and keeps it from swinging back unexpectedly. Closing takes slight inward pressure with no release to push.

How can you tell a gas strut is wearing out?

A worn gas strut often lets the hood or tailgate sink slowly, needs more force to lift, or fails to hold the door open. Check the strut ends for oil or damage and look for bent mounting brackets before replacing the strut.

Do the mounting points need checking during installation?

Yes. Check the ball joints and brackets before fitting, since worn mounting points can make a good strut feel weak. Tighten fasteners evenly and recheck them after the first few trips.
