The Safari uses a raised roof that adds up to 5.5 inches of headroom and a unique overland look. The top is made in the U.S.A. from hand laid fiberglass, with a textured grain finish. Overhead portal windows add light, and the carpeted headliner is meant to cut heat and road noise.
The 4-door Safari uses the same one-piece design as the 2-door version, without upper doors. The raised roof is the main change from a stock hardtop, and it gives passengers and gear more room. The optional Defender roof rack mounts without drilling, which adds cargo space above the top without changing the roof itself.

Living with a raised roof
A raised roof changes the way the cab feels. The extra height gives passengers more room to sit upright and makes it easier to store gear inside, but it also raises the center of the vehicle slightly. Drive with that in mind on steep side slopes and in crosswinds. The portal windows bring in extra daylight, which helps the cabin feel open even on overcast days.
An overhead rack adds weight above the top, so load it evenly and keep the total weight modest. Check the roof rack mounting hardware often, especially after rough trails, because vibration can loosen fittings over time. Inspect the lift struts and the seal around the rear window too, since a worn strut or a tired seal is easier to fix early than after water gets into the cab. Clean the glass with a mild cleaner so the tint and portal windows stay clear.
