Seal and fit checks
A soft top on an older Wrangler works as part of the body, so the seal at the belt rail matters as much as the fabric. Before fitting, clean the rail and check for rust, flattened sections or old sealant that could stop the skirt from sitting flat. A skirt that tucks cleanly keeps water out of the cab floor.
Door skins on YJ models carry the most load in wind and rain. Check that the upper skins line up with the frame edges and that the zippers close without pulling. Stiff, cracked coating near the zipper is a sign the skin is nearing the end of its life, and the top is easier to replace as one set.

Wrangler YJ years for this top run from 1988 through 1995. The Wrangler TJ, which began in 1997, and the later JK and LJ generations do not fit it. Confirm your model year before ordering.
Installation notes
The Montana top is designed to replace the factory top using the same belt rail attachment, and no drilling is described. Remove the old top, slip the new one on, and tuck the skirt under the rail.
