Handling and lamp heat
Halogen bulbs run hot and the quartz envelope is sensitive to skin oil, so handle the bulb by its base and use clean gloves or a dry cloth. Let the lamp cool before removing the bulb. Oil on the glass can create a hot spot and shorten life, which is one reason a bulb may burn out sooner than expected.
Headlamp reflectors and lenses can collect moisture from weather or washing, so inspect the seal around the housing. Condensation inside a lamp can corrode the socket and wiring. When replacing bulbs in pairs, check both headlamps for matching output so the beam pattern stays even at night.
